Benefits for Aboriginals
Aboriginal communities are a big part in Canada, so we want to make sure that they get some benefits from the Northern Gateway Pipeline too. The aboriginal equality ownership program offers them a 10% share in the project. It also has significant long term financial benefits, such as an expected $280 million from the aggregate equity ownership over thirty years. The procurement, employment, and training program offers aboriginals 15% of regional construction jobs. Next, a community trust will be established for aboriginal and non-aboriginal communities with a commitment of 1% pre-tax domestic profit. They have stewardship programs that enable aboriginal communities to have access to existing Enbridge stewardship and habitat protection initiatives. Although the aboriginals signed the fraser declaration, and have worries about their land being destroyed, they obviously don't understand all the benefits that they will be getting from the pipeline, and that Enbridge will try to make as less harm as possible.
